DAWSONVILLE - At the height of treacherous winter weather conditions, Dawson County authorities handled two fatal incidents, one involving a house fire, the other a traffic accident.
Emergency services officials reported that an elderly woman was killed in a house fire around 12:30 a.m. Thursday at 200 Pinewood Trail. When firefighters arrived on the scene, they were told that 84-year-old Rosie Lee Holtzclaw was trapped inside the burning home. They made entry into the house and found the victim in a bedroom.
"The patient was removed from the residence and transported to Northside Forsyth where she was pronounced dead," said Dawson County Fire Chief Lanier Swafford.
The house was a total loss, and the fire is still under investigation.
