Plans moving ahead for Jewell/Butler office building

By Ken Stanford
GAINESVILLE - It's been called the crossroads of northeast Georgia...Jesse Jewell Parkway and E.E. Butler Parkway in Gainesville. And, one corner of it is in line for a makeover.

Attorney Mike Weaver now owns the property - for years occupied by a car wash - and plans to put an office building on the lot but, he said, the question is "when?"

"We are trying to get some tenants now but the economy is holding everyone back," said Weaver.

He added, "The site planning is done, architectural plans are basically done, builder is ready to begin, and so forth. Just need some tenants!"

He said the building will be two-story, 16,000 square feet with about 4,000 additional square feet of storage in the roof area.

"I intend to move my law office and occupy about 4,000 square feet on the second floor," Weaver said. "I have verbal commitments for the balance of the second floor. Once we get pre-leases for the first floor we will begin construction. We may start soon or we may be years away. I hope it is soon."

The site is across from two high-rise bank buildings, Regions and Wachovia, and the Gainesville Holiday Inn.
