Barrow County man charged with burning mother's home

WINDER - A Bethlehem man was arrested Saturday for setting fire to his mother's home.

Investigator Matt Guthas with the Barrow County Sheriff's Office said Charles Scott Mason, 29, was already in jail when he was charged with setting the fire at 44 Gifton Thomas Road in Bethlehem Thursday.

"After he set the fire, he actually left and went to the Dollar General Store, which is very close to his house in Bethlehem," said Guthas. "He was arrested there for shoplifting."

Guthas says authorities are investigating several possible motives for the arson at this time. He said Mason was living with his mother when the fire was set.
