NGCMS closes Lanier Park campus ER on April 28

By B.J. Williams
GAINESVILLE - It's almost time for the new North Patient Tower at the Northeast Georgia Medical Center to open, and that means the consolidation of some services, such as the emergency room.

NGMC spokeswoman Cathy Bowers said Friday that the emergency room on the Lanier Park Campus will close permanently at midnight on April 28.

"At that time, all emergencies should go to the emergency room at Northeast Georgia's Spring Street Campus," Bowers said. She noted that the ER on the Spring Street Campus will expand to allow for increased patient volume.

The hospital has posted banners at the Lanier Park ER to alert patients to the change. In addition, Bowers said patients are being notified personally. "We have sent out letters to all households that have used the emergency department at Lanier Park over the past two years." Also, flyers outlining the changes are being distributed at physicians' offices.

Between Apri 24 and May 1, other services will be consolidated from the Lanier Park Campus to the Spring Street Campus. Those services include surgical, imaging and inpatient. Some outpatient services, including bariatric support, diabetes education and the Wound Healing Center, will remain on the Lanier Parkl Campus, according to Bowers.
