Fire at Rite Aid in Dahlonega purposely set

By B.J. Williams
DAHLONEGA - State fire officials said today a fire that broke out Monday at the Rite Aid Pharmacy in Dahlonega is considered arson.

State Fire and Insurance Commissioner John Oxendine said they are looking for a man who apparently became upset when he couldn't find an item he wanted at the drug store. He is seen on surveillance video pouring some sort of accelerant on the floor of the building.

"He spread it down the floor and lit it, and then he just walked out," said Oxendine.

The commissioner said they do have a person of interest they are looking for, but they still want the public's help with information.

"Anyone who has any information should contact our office at 1-800-282-5804," said Oxendine.

Oxendine says the fire did extensive damage to the Rite Aid Pharmacy on Main Street, although no specific dollar amount has been calculated at this point.
