Bethlehem robbery suspect killed in car crash

BARROW COUNTY - A Winder man killed in a traffic accident over the weekend is believed to be the same man who robbed a Barrow County store last week.

Barrow County authorities said Tuesday Durwin Anthony Schofield, 41, died in a car crash on Highway 11 Sunday. And, according to evidence, it seems that Schofield is the man who robbed the Dollar General Store in Bethlehem on December 16. In that incident, the robber intimidated the cashier into handing over money from the register, but never showed a weapon.

Investigators are working to further confirm the robber's identity through testimony, physical evidence and cooperation with other law enforcement agencies.
