Basketball: Buford girls fend off Gainesville

GAINESVILLE -- The Buford girls basketball team held off Gainesville, 52-47 on Saturday at Gainesville.

In a battle of top-10 teams in seperate classifications, the Lady Wolves (7-1) used 18 points from Blanche Alverson and 11 points from Jocelyn Danley to help seal the win.

The Lady Red Elephants' Jaymee Carnes helped keep the pressure on throughout, scoring a game-high 22 points.

Gainesville will look to get back in the win column on Tuesday when it plays host to Franklin County.

Meanwhile, Buford travels to Westminster for a Region 6-AA showdown at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
