It's all about chickens at the NE Georgia History Center

By Staff
GAINESVILLE - The Northeast Georgia History Center paid tribute to the poultry industry as it opened its latest permanent addition this weekend.

History Center Managing Director Glen Kyle said the facility already had a poultry exhibit, but they've updated it.

"The biggest thing you'll see is a re-created chicken house," Kyle said. "We took the first 6 feet of an old chicken house that was originally built in the 1960s and sort of rebuilt that in the gallery."

On Saturday admission was free, refreshments were provided and Homer Myers was on hand to sign his new book, "Pass the Chicken, Please: The Life and Times of Jesse Jewell."

On Sept. 14, the history center will host "Chicken Sunday," the first of recurring family days which will always be on the second Sunday of each month. Among the activities scheduled from 1-4 p.m. Sunday:

.Watch LIVE BABY CHICKS peeping and playing, and learn about the process of raising chickens
·Check out a FUNKY EGG
