ATLANTA - Metro Gainesville added 300 jobs over the past month, according to the state Labor Department, an increase of almost half a percent. The state, as a whole, gained 10,200 jobs, an increase of two-tenths of one percent.
Meanwhile, the state's unemployment rate was unchanged - at 5.3 percent - from February to March. The rate is up, however, 1.2 percent over the year, from 4.1 percent in March 2007.
County-by-county unemployment rates are expected to be issued next Thursday.
The 11 metro areas of the state and their job changes include:
- Albany, up 200, or three-tenths of one percent, from 64,400 to 64,600.
- Athens, down 200, or two-tenths percent, from 82,900 to 82,700.
- Atlanta, up 8,900, or four-tenths of one percent, from 2,462,300 to 2,471,200.
- Augusta, up 1,100, or one-half of one percent, from 216,900 to 218,000.
- Columbus, down 100, or one-tenth of one percent, from 121,200 to 121,100.
- Dalton, up 100, or one-tenth of one percent, from 77,500 to 77,600.
- Gainesville, up 300, or four-tenths of one percent, from 76,900 to 77,200.
- Macon, up 200, or two-tenths of one percent, from 100,200 to 100,400.
- Savannah, up 800, or one-half of one percent, from 161,000 to 161,800.
- Valdosta, unchanged at 56,400.
- Warner Robins, up 300, or one-half of one percent, from 59,100 to 59,400.
