A move to discourage illegal immigrants from settling in Oakwood

By Ken Stanford Contributing Editor
OAKWOOD - The Oakwood City Council is looking for ways - using an as yet unwritten town ordinance - to discourage illegal immigrants from living in the city.

City Manager Stan Brown confirms that he and City Attorney Donnie Hunt have been directed by the City Council - at the suggestion of councilman Gary Anderson - to look at ways other cities have approached the issue.

Brown says they'll also be talking with Hall County government and the sheriff's department and other local agencies to see if "we can work together to resollve some of the impact on our community."

Brown says the council vote was 3-0 to move ahead on the matter with councilmen Sam Evans and Ron McFarland abstaining.
