Favored Buford not acting like a favorite

BUFORD -- Make no mistake, the Buford Wolves will be heavily favored going into Saturday's Class AA championship game against Lovett.

And they should be.

This is the team that blew semifinal opponent Dublin out of the Georgia Dome before it even had a chance to get warmed up last weekend. The Wolves took a 35-0 lead over the Fighting Irish at halftime before walking away with a 48-0 victory. And that's not to mention the fact that Buford has already defeated Lovett in 2007 -- 21-0 in the last game of the regular season.

Yet despite those outcomes, the Wolves aren't clearing another space in their sizable trophy cabinet just yet.

"We can be beat at home," Wolves coach Jess Simpson said. "Charlton [County] has beaten us at home three times this decade; Commerce has beaten us [in the Class A title game in 2000].

"It's a championship game, a high school game, and we know anything can happen."

With that in mind, Simpson says his team must approach Saturday's Class AA finale with a single-minded focus
