Maysville festival celebrates 40 years

By By Katie Highsmith
MAYSVILLE - Maysville citizens turned out this weekend to enjoy good food, good company, and good fun.

Maysville citizen Nancy Smith said the 40th Annual Autumn Leaf Festival includes everything from food and crafts to blow-up games and hula-hoop contests.

"We have the vendors with all kinds of things from birdhouses to jewelry to crocheted items to quilts," Smith said. "You just name it, we got it."

Smith said she's watched the festival grow larger and more popular since she first started running the information booth in 1994.

"It has grown," said Smith. "We have more vendors every year, and the parade is bigger every year."

Smith said the annual festival provides publicity for the town of Maysville.

"It has put Maysville on the map because that's what it's known for, and people from all over know the Maysville festival," said Smith.

Smith said the Autumn Leaf Festival also means a lot to the Maysville community.

"People that grew up here and moved away will take their vacations to come this weekend so they can attend the festival," said Smith.

The Autumn Leaf Festival is held every year on the first full weekend in October in Veterns Park in Maysville.
