Lancaster performs on Good Morning America

By by Ken Stanford
NEW YORK - Gainesville native John Lancaster was on ABC's Good Morning America Wednesday as keyboardist for country music singer Jake Owen. Owen's is the opening act for the Kenny Chesney tour this summer.

Lancaster, the son of Joey and Lynn Lancaster of Gainesville, has been playing on the Chesney tour since June and will play 15 shows this month, including three sold-out shows at Phillips Arena in Atlanta.

He also played on the Chesney tour two summers ago for singer/songwriter Rachel Proctor, now his wife, who was the opening act then. The couple married last November. And, he has played in Gainesville a couple of times over the past two years. Last year, he and Proctor were among the performers at the Honor John Jarrard Concert and in November 2004, Lancaster performed for Hope Heals, the annual fundraiser for the North Georgia AIDS Alliance.

This year, he donated a Chesney-autographed guitar for auction at the Jarrard concert, which was held Tuesday night. (See separate story.) His Dad said Wednesday it was bought for $1,500. The concert annually benefits a number of charities in the Gainesville area and is held in memory of John Jarrard, another Gainesville native, who died several years ago after a long battle with diabetes, but not before a successful songwriting career in Nashville.

The Good Morning America appearance was in conjunction with the program's 2006 Summer Concert Series.
