Major work starting Wednesday along Jewell Parkway

GAINESVILLE - A couple of major projects are expected to begin Wednesday along busy Jesse Jewell Parkway in the heart of Gainesville.

Work is planned over the next month on improvements to the Green Street/Jewell Parkway intersection which will be closed during that time. However, Kevin Purcell of the city's Construction Services Division, says Jewell Parkway will remain open, although there may be a few days when it will be necessary to close one westbound lane. Most of the work, though, will be "behind the right-of-way," according to Purcell.

At the same time, crews will be rebuilding and resurfacing the nearby City Hall parking lot. Purcell says the parking lot will be reconfigured during the process.

"The way you get in and out, the way you drive around the parking lot. The spaces are going to increase by, maybe, three or four."

Work on both projects is scheduled to be completed May 12.
