Canadian canoe, kayak trials come to Gainesville

By by Ken Stanford
GAINESVILLE - A group of Canadian canoeists and kayakers are in Gainesville this week for the Canoe Kayak Canada Senior National Flatwater trials.

President of the Lanier Canoe and Kayak Club Connie Hagler says the event is open to the public, "If you'd like to watch the event by water that is absolutely something we would like for you to do." Hagler adds that people arriving by boat should approach slowly and check in with a traffic controller.

Hagler says a number of former Olympic and World champions will be participating in the two-day event which starts Friday, "So, it's a great opportunity for the youth in our community to see athletes at this level."

The Boat Ramp at Clarks Bridge Park will be closed Friday and Saturday for the first set of trials.

There is no admission charge.
