GAINESVILLE - Two Gainesville attorneys and a former Gainesville GBI agent were among the candidates who tossed their hats into the political ring Wednesday.

Attorney Jody Cooley qualified to run in the Democratic Primary for the State Senate seat being vacated by Casey Cagle, who is running for Lt. Governor, and Arturo Corso signed up to run for the Democratic nomination for the State House now held by Stacey Reece, who is not seeking re-election.

State Representative Tommy Benton, a Republican and a member of the Hall County delegation, qualified for re-election Wednesday.

Jim Hallman is the former Agent-In-Charge of the Gainesville who entered the Republican Primary for District Attorney of the Enotah Judicial Circuit Wednesday. Incumbent Stan Gunter qualified earlier this week.

(See separate story for a list of all candidates for District Attorney, State House and State Senate in the immediate Gainesville who had qualified with party officials in Atlanta as of 7:00 Wednesday night, according to the Georgia Secretary of State's Office.)
