Graduation activity begins this weekend

UNDATED - College graduation activities begin in northeast Georgia this weekend as Piedmont College in Demorest holds a baccalaureate service for 365 new graduates.

Graduation at Piedmont will be held a week later - as will commencement ceremonies for Brenau University and Gainesville State College.

Martin B. Copenhaver, senior pastor of Wellesley Congregational Church in Wellesley, Mass., will deliver the baccalaureate address.

On Saturday, May 6, Piedmont will hold graduation ceremonies for 215 undergraduates at 10:00, followed by a separate ceremony at 2:00 for 150 students receiving masters and specialist degrees. Both ceremonies will be held in the Johnny Mize Athletic Center on the Piedmont campus in Demorest.

The commencement speakers will be Georgia Chief Justice Leah Ward Sears at the 10:00 ceremony and Dr. Michael Mescon, dean emeritus of the Georgia State University School of Business at 2:00.

Brenau University's graduation ceremonies are as follows: 6 p.m., Friday May 5, for Women's College undergraduate students; 10 a.m., Saturday, May 6, for Evening and Weekend/Online (EWC/OL) undergraduate students; and 3 p.m., Saturday, May 6 for (EWC/OL) graduate students
