Maranatha gets first-ever GCAA playoff win

OAKWOOD - The Maranatha Christian boys basketball team won its first-ever Georgia Christian Athletic Association playoff game routing Lake Dow out of McDonough 55-28 Friday night at the Maranatha gym.

The Eagles (19-3) advanced to the GCAA Final Four against the winner of the Mountain Area-Bible Baptist game Feb. 10th in Macon at the Gilead Christian School.

Maranatha open the game with a 24-4 run and never looked back. The Eagles led 32-10 by halftime.

Coach Greg Schmeltz said it was a good start to the playoffs.

"We executed our game plan. We jumped on them early and moved the ball and took them out of their game," Schmeltz said. "We're excited about heading down to Macon next week."

Ben Ross led Maranatha with 17 points. Ben Ross added 16 for the Eagles.

Maranatha went 2-0 this season against Mountain Area, which is out of Morganton near Blairsville, by margins of 17 and six points.. The Eagles did not play Bible Baptist during the regular season.
