CHS girls, East Hall boys take Middle School titles

GAINESVILLE - The Chestatee Girls team and East Hall Boys capped dream seasons by going undefeated and capturing the 2006 Hall County Middle School Basketball Championship. Both teams swept through the tournament field that included Chestatee, Davis, East Hall, Gainesville, Lakeview, North Hall, South Hall, and West Hall. <br> <br> In the girls&#39; championship game, the Chestatee Lady Eagles, coached by Ron House, defeated South Hall Middle, the defending champions, 40-34. <br> <br> Led by their outstanding post player, Jaymee Carnes, who scored a game-high 29 points, Chestatee withstood a late rally by the Lady Mavericks fueled by the 3 point shooting of Shelly Farley, who finished with 12 points, and driving lay-ups by Haley Chapman, who chipped in 11 points.<br> <br> Madisen Yates and Chelsea Wilson added 6 and 5 points respectively for Chestatee, while Sydney Boleman contributed 7 for South Hall.<br> <br> In the boys&#39; championship game, the East Hall Cavaliers, coached by Bob Comley, overcame an eight-point half-time deficit to down a scrappy North Hall Trojan team 50-45.<br> <br> The Cavaliers turned the game to their advantage with a 21 point explosion in the third quarter to take the momentum away from the Trojans. East Hall was led by Joshten Hopkins with 17 points, Nolan Carter with 13 points, Ashton Cheeks with 11 points, and Greg Edwards with 8 points. <br> <br> North Hall was led by Chase Syfan, the only Trojan in double-figures with 10 points, followed by Robert Humphrey and Tom Drury who had 6 points each.
