West Hall rally falls short against Johnson

GAINESVILLE - Johnson opened the second half of its Region 7-AAA consolation game with West Hall on an 22-11 run and eventually rolled to a 79-64 win at the Gainesville gym.

The two teams traded the lead a half-dozen times in the first quarter but the Knights (19-9) used an 11-1 run to run out to a 29-18 lead in the second quarter.

A.J. Gustavel led Johnson with 18 points. Jonas Randolph added 14, Robert Taylor 12, and Tyshawn Cheek 11 for the Knights.

Maurice Tabor and Demagio Stephens each had 14 points to lead West Hall (10-14). Stephens hit three big 3-pointers in the second half to shoot the Spartans back in to the game. Chris Schneider added 12 for West Hall.

Johnson wil travel to Region 8-AAA second seed Franklin County in the state tournament, which begins Friday. West Hall will travel to Hart County.
