Eagles clipped by Bible Baptist in GCAA Final Four

MACON - The first-ever trip to the Georgia Christian Athletic Association Final Four for the Maranatha Christian boys basketball team was a short one.

The Eagles (19-4) fell to Bible Baptist out of Statesboro Friday night in the semifinals.

Sam Reed finished 17 points and Ben Ross had 16 for Maranatha.

Maranatha coach Greg Schmeltz said it just wasn't their night.

"We played okay but we had a poor shooting night overall," Schmeltz said. "The guys gave maximum effort and that's all you can ask for. It just didn't go our way."

Ross and brother Brain both fouled out leaving the Eagles with offense outside Reed in the late moments of the game.

The Eagles had advanced to the Final Four after routing Lake Dow out of McDonough 55-28 in the opening round of the playoffs.
