GAINESVILLE - Gainesville State College will host its 3rd Annual Latino Youth Conference 2006 next Saturday from 9:00-4:00.

It is sponsored by The Celia and Marcos Scholarship Fund and is open to parents and high school students from over 50 area schools. It is estimated that over 250 students and parents will attend. The sessions and workshops will take place in the GSC Continuing Education/Performing Arts Center.

The conference is designed to provide information to students and parents about higher education. Some of the student workshops include topics such as "Writing a Winning Essay" and "Completing a College Application". Parent workshops include "What you did not know about the college process" and "Paying for College."

A wide variety of information will be made available about college admission, financial aid and scholarships. While at the conference students and parents will also have an opportunity to attend a college and university fair to obtain information from more than 10 institutions.

According to GSC's Coordinator of the Office of Hispanic Outreach and Development Louis E. Negrón, "This event serves as an introduction for Hispanic/Latino families into higher education; they are able to obtain accurate information that will lead to having their children successfully enroll with a college or university."
