BUFORD - In order to win the Region 6-AA tournament, all Greater Atlanta Christian had to do was head to Buford High School and beat the Lady Wolves twice. And that's just what they did.
The Lady Spartans won two close ballgames to claim the region crown and take the number-one seed from 6-AA into the North Sectionals next Friday at Heritage Point Park in Dalton.
Buford's Jesse Groves pitched well in Game-1, but lost for the fifth time on the year. 5-3 was the final, forcing a second game.
The second game saw a great pitching deul between GAC's Jessica Coan and Buford's Melissa Higginbotham. GAC (21-12) finally scored in the eighth inning to win the game 3-2 and clinch the region.
Buford (23-9) will play Rockmart next Friday at 4:00 in the first round of the North Sectional in Dalton.
