More work planned on Longstreet Bridge

By by Ken Stanford
GAINESVILLE - The state Department of Transportation is still trying to finish work on Longstreet Bridge in North Hall.

District Engineer Russell McMurry says work will take place overnight Sunday and Monday night on the Cleveland Highway span, weather permitting.

The bridge will close at 9:00 Sunday and Monday nights, reopening the following mornings at 5:00.

"The contractor will work on their punch list overnight Sunday and Monday. Their work is more rain sensitive than temperature sensitive so unless it is raining hard, we will be out there working to finish the bridge," McMurry explains. "We hope these will be the last closures needed to complete the contractor's punch list. There is also punch list work to complete on Bells Mill Bridge."

The detour route will direct motorists to use SR 284/Clarks Bridge Road to take them back to US 129/Cleveland Highway.
