Friendship Road hearing planned

GAINESVILLE - The planned widening and reconstruction of Friendship Road will be the subject of a public hearing later this month.

The hearing will be held January 31, 4:00-7:00 p.m., at Friendship Elementary School.

Georgia Department of Transportation spokeswoman Teri Pope says the affected area is an eight-mile stretch of Friendship Road between I-985 to Georgia 211.

She says it will involved straightening out some curves and cutting down some hills on the existing corridor, but that part of the work will involve new construction - "where asphalt doesn't exist now."

She added "the road will stay completely in Hall County where now it gets down into Gwinnett County..."
