GAINESVILLE - The current dry spell in Gainesville - 14 days as of Tuesday - is the longest since the first of the year - and this summer was among the wettest on record.

It hasn't rained in Gainesville since the remnants of Katrina pounded the area August 29-30.

Gainesville hasn't gone that long without rain since between Christmas Day last year and January 5.

In fact, this has been one of the wettest summers on record, with rainfall during the the three traditional summer months of summer - June, July and August - totaling 23.19 inches at the AccessNorthGa.com Weather Center. During those same three months last year, 12.86 inches fell.
