Pageant raises $14,000 for Relay for Life

GAINESVILLE - Before the first step was taken last Friday night in the annual Hall County Relay for Life, $14,000 was already in the cancer fundraiser's kitty.

The first Hall County Relay for Life "Queens for CARE" Pageant raised that amount for this year's event. "CARE" is an acronym for Caner Awareness Reaching Everyone.

There were 73 participants, ages 4-80, who competed for eleven titles.

The winners were: Tiny Miss, Maya Thompson of Hoschton; Princess, Sydney Frances King of Gainesville; Little Miss, LaKrista Richie of Dahlonega; Junior Pre-Teen, Reagan White of Gainesville; Pre-Teen, Rachel Grap of Lawrenceville; Junior Teen, Rachel Surls of Lawrenceville; Supreme Miss, Crystal Nicole Sims of Cornelia; Teen, Ashley Sprague of Lawrenceville; Miss, Ashley Politz of Lawrenceville; Ms., Brittan Vassy of Buford; Mrs., Sandra Coffey of Dacula; and Senior Ms., Louise Coffey.

Organizers plan to make it an annual event and the date for next year's has already been set - May 20.

The sponsors are Lakewood Baptist Church, Hall County Relay for Life , Lakewood and Friends Relay Team, and Hall County Queens for CARE.
