Rezoning requested for disputed property

GAINESVILLE - Plans for the South Hall property at the center of a controversy involving the county commission last year go before the Hall County Planning Commission next month.

Vintage Communities Inc. wants to rezone 544 acres on Union Church Road for a 1,400-unit adult housing development with 14 acres set aside for retail purposes.

Controversy erupted late last year when the county commission attempted to condemn the property for a park.

Also on the June 6 planning commission agenda are plans for a 69-lot subdivision on Grants Ford Road near Smith Mill Road.
