ASO's 30th anniversary Gainesville concert set

By by Ken Stanford
GAINESVILLE - The Atlanta Symphony is coming to Gainesville again this year - marking the 30th anniversary of its performances here.

Gladys Wyant, executive director of the Arts Council of Gainesville, recalls that the first few concerts were held around Thanksgiving.

"It was something that we had to look forward to each holiday season," Wyant said.

But, she says a number of circumstances soon dictated that the concerts be moved. Wyant said the symphony began having its annual fund raiser about the same time it was performing in Gainesville and the Gainesville Ballet scheduled its performance of The Nutcracker about the same time.

The concerts are now held at various times of the year. This year's will be July 29 at the Arts Council amphitheatre.
