Portion of Ga. 365 named in honor of Toccoa man

GAINESVILLE - A portion of Georgia 365 is being named for a longtime Stephens County businessman and civic and church leader.

Banks County native Roger Caudell, now 81, operated a grocery, hardware and farm supply business for more than 40 years and operated a poultry farm, as well. For a time he was the largest poultry farmer in Stephens County.

Despite his business and farm obligations, Caudell still found time to serve as a trustee of the Stephens County Board of Education and served for 15 years as a member of the county department of family and children services board. He served as a deacon of the First Baptist Church in Toccoa for more than 50 years.

The state Department of Transportation says the stretch of Georgia 365 from the Jamieson Intersection to the South Carolina line will be named the Roger Caudell Highway, according to a resolution passed earlier this year by the Georgia General Assembly.

A road naming ceremony has not been scheduled.
