Gainesville College SIFE team gets $5,000 grant

By by Ken Stanford
OAKWOOD - The Gainesville College Students In Free Enterprise (SIFE) Team has received a $5,000 grant from the Marcus Foundation to teach free enterprise principles to at-risk youth in the Gainesville/Hall County community.

Gainesville College SIFE was one of 50 SIFE Teams in the southeast selected to receive the award from the foundation's "I Choose" grant program. A selection committee comprised of entrepreneurs and business leaders from SIFE donor companies chose the grant recipients.

The Gainesville College team will use the money to fund a mentoring program to encourage at-risk youth to stay in school and work toward financial independence by getting the skills necessary to succeed in the global marketplace. The SIFE team members will be working with existing programs to teach budgeting, credit management, savings and investment to at-risk youth.

Their goal is to encourage students to achieve their dreams through the free enterprise system.
