City council to organize for new year

By by Ken Stanford
GAINESVILLE - The Gainesville City Council's first meeting of the new year will be held on a Wednesday instead of the traditional Tuesday.

It will be an organizational meeting - at which, among other things, Mayor Pro-tem Mark Musselwhite is expected to be named mayor, a position that rotates among council members. There will be no new faces on the council this year. Musselwhite and Mayor George Wangemann each ran unopposed. While he steps down as mayor, Wangemann will remain on the council.

The meeting will be next Wednesday at 9:00. The first meeting of each month is typically held at 5:30 on a Tuesday.

Also next Wednesday, the city's impact fee advisory committee is scheduled to meeting. That session will be at 5:30 and will involve a discussion of the city's impact fee program.

FLOWERY BRANCH

The Flowery Branch City Council will also meet shortly after the first of the year for an organizational session, which will include a new mayor and two new city council members. Mayor Bryan Puckette and councilmen Jim Worl and Larry Pritchett will step down when their terms expire Saturday. That meeting will be at 10:00 Tuesday.
