Vikings' rallies fall short against Laney

By From staff reports
AUGUSTA - Three games in eight days finally caught up to the East Hall football team.

The Vikings fell behind early and had two rallies fall short as they fell to Laney 40-27 in the first round of the Class AA playoffs Saturday night.

The Vikings, who finish the year at 6-5, were given an extra day to prepare after having to fight their way into the playoffs in a three-way mini-playoff Monday with Dawson County and Wesleyan.

Laney (9-2) opened the game with 20 consecutive points and never looked back. East Hall twice got within a touchdown closing the gap to 26-20 in the third quarter and then 34-27 in the fourth quarter.

But a late Laney score sealed the game.

East Hall senior quarterback Lee Coleman closed out a great high school career with 243 yards passing and three touchdowns.

Junior Walter Hill caught all three touchdowns for the Vikings.

Laney moves on to play Grady Friday night in the second round.
