GAINESVILLE - Just as many United Way organizations from around the country sent funds to help families in Hall County after the tornado in 1998, United Way of Hall County has made a donation of $5,000 to help United Ways throughout Florida.
United Way of Hall County President and Chief Professional Officer Anna Gines said 100 percent of all contributions to the response fund will go to help the people in the communities most severely impacted by the hurricane, "with no administrative costs being taken by United Way on a national, state or local level and no dollars being used for other disasters, current or future."
All funds will be allocated for both front-line disaster relief and long- term recovery needs as determined by affected United Ways in coordination with their human service partners.
Gines says local relief agencies spent "12-18 months" helping victims of the 1998 tornado which caused millions of dollars in damage in the Gainesville area and killed more than a dozen people.

Florida Governor Jeb Bush continues to ask that people not send material goods because transportation, storage and distribution cost money and time.
