PSC reaching out to Georgia's Hispanics

By by Ken Stanford
ATLANTA - The continued increase in Georgia's Hispanic population has led the state Public Service Commission to add the option to speak with a Spanish-speaking Information and Referral Specialist to its automated call distributor.

Spanish-speaking consumers who need assistance with their Georgia Power, Savannah Electric and Power, natural gas marketer, Atmos Energy or telephone bills can call 1-800-282-5813, if living outside metro-Atlanta, or locally at 404-656-4501 to voice their concerns.

The caller will be prompted to dial "23" to reach the Spanish-speaking Information and Referral Specialist. If that representative is busy with another consumer, the next caller is asked to leave a voicemail message in order to receive a call back.

"In the past, the Commission has been able to assist Spanish-speaking consumers on a limited basis," said Cynthia Johnson, Director of Consumer Affairs. "Now, we have the technology and staff that allows us to fully support the Hispanic community."
