GAINESVILLE - Henry Rigdon, Executive Vice President and COO, has announced plans to retire from Northeast Georgia Medical Center and Health System, effective October 31, according to NGHS President and CEO Jim Gardner.

Rigdon joined the Medical Center 27 years ago and began his career with the organization following an administrative residency through Georgia State University's healthcare administration graduate program. Following his residency Rigdon served as Chief Financial Officer for a number of years prior to being named Chief Operating Officer in March 1990.

"Henry has been an integral part of the growth and success of Northeast Georgia Medical Center and Health System," said Gardner. "He has played a significant role in the organization's evolution from a community hospital to a regional referral medical center providing specialized healthcare services to communities throughout Northeast Georgia. His constant stewardship of resources and leadership has helped fuel asset growth from $23 million in 1977 to $558 million today."

"Throughout my tenure with the Medical Center I have had tremendous appreciation for the talented, caring employees who have worked tirelessly to make this organization an outstanding healthcare institution," said Rigdon. "Our employees have always been a major source of inspiration to me and I have thoroughly enjoyed my career here."

Gardner acknowledged the assistance Rigdon has given him through the organization's leadership transition over the past six months, saying, "Henry's steady hand and counsel have been a vital and most appreciated resource to me."
