New Gainesville arts festival planned

GAINESVILLE - Plans are complete for a new downtown Gainesville arts festival next month.<br> <br> Main Street Gainesville&#39;s Joe Burnett says, led by local visual artist, Anne Brodie Hill, the Art in the Square Association has invited some of the finest local and regional artists to be a part of this inaugural event. <br> <br> Burnett says more than 20 artists will display and sell their work Saturday October 2 from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on the Downtown Square. Art will range from pottery; carved wooden bowls and furniture; oil and watercolors; sculpture; abstract acrylic paintings; and even fascinating painted screens. <br> <br> Artists include Harold Link, Anne Brodie Hill, Fred Warshofsky', Judith Surowiec, Shirley Shepherd, and Nancy and E. B. Scot Roehm, among others. <br> <br> In addition to the art, "There will be plenty of activities for the whole family", said Ms. Hill. "INK, Inc. will be providing a number of art related activities for kids including the ever-popular "sidewalk chalk art". <br> <br> In addition there will be a moonwalk, face painting by Cheerio the Clown and the Masonic Lodge train ride around the Square. Food will be available from numerous restaurants around the Square plus The Gainesville Spot will have coffee, drinks and food under the tent on the Square. Music will be provided by saxophonist, Brian Ulrich. <br> <br> "We are excited about this first annual show and look forward to seeing it grow", said Patrick Ceska, owner of Oliver Galerie d' Art in the Main Street Market and creator of the festival logo. <br> <br> In addition to Oliver Galerie d' Art, other creative businesses will be open during the festival such as the Artichoke, Side Street Studio, Cool Stuff of Household Interests, the Coffee Shop of Horrors, Celestial Studios, Frames You-Nique, the gallery at Tea Tyme Restaurant and the shops at the Main Street Market including the Painted Fern, A Window on Main Street, Across the Pond, and the Silver Spoon.
