Cornelia mixed drink referendum scheduled

By by Ken Stanford
CORNELIA - Cornelia voters will be asked later this year if they want to legalize the sale of mixed drinks in the city.

The Cornelia City Commission has voted to put the question on the General Election ballot November 2.

The commission's 2-1 vote to hold the referendum followed a lengthy discussion among members of the board.

The referendum could be held in September on a date set aside by the state for special elections. However, Mayor Don Higgins said that by holding the referendum in November during the General Election, the city would avoid the extra costs that are incurred with special elections.
