OAKWOOD - Gainesville College classes will begin Monday with a record enrollment.

College officials say the overall enrollment at both the Gainesville Campus and Oconee Campus has grown by 10.9% over last year's enrollment of 5,280. Of the 5,858 students enrolled, 3990 are taking classes at the Gainesville Campus and 2,016 are taking classes at the Oconee Campus. A total of 211 of these students are taking courses on both campuses. Another 171 students are taking advantage of internet instruction.

The College also has a record 187 students participating in the high school Joint Enrollment Program which is a 14% increase over the 164 enrolled last fall. Students participating from Georgia public high schools have their tuition and fees covered by the HOPE scholarship. These are students who are taking college courses for college credit while satisfying their home high school's graduation requirements.

Students taking classes on the Gainesville Campus will have the opportunity to participate in Week of Welcome (WOW 2004) which also begins Monday and goes through Wednesday, September 1.
