GAINESVILLE - Some City of Gainesville garbage pickup crews are overburdened - and the city council was briefed Thursday on plans to do something about that.
Public works director Perry Eisenach says some routes just generate more trash and garbage than others.
"Their burden is higher than other employees that are on the lighter routes that don't pick up as much and we want to even that out."
Eisenach said this will result in no change in the number of personnel in the department.
"It will basically just even-out the workload for the workers."
Affected garbage pickup customers will be notified well in advance of the changes through notices left at their homes and other means, according to Eisenach.
"Some people whose pickup days are now Mondays and Thursdays will switch to Tuesday and Fridays, and vice versa."
