GAINESVILLE - Two of the legendary Harlem Globtrotters are coming to Gainesville in a couple of weeks.

Meadowlark Lemon and Curly Neal will be here with Meadowlark Lemon's Harlem All Stars.

The team will play the Gainesville Sharpshooters at the Gainesville College gym September 18 at 6:30 p.m. and September 19 at 2:00 p.m.

Meadowlark Lemon's Harlem All Stars is an outreach of a spirtually-oriented foundation created by Lemon in 1986, the Meadowlark Lemon Foundation. The second game will be preceded by an inspirational service by Lemon, who is now an ordained minister.

Their appearances will be sponsored by the Foothills of Georgia Society for Human Resource Management and the Gainesville College of Minority and Multi Cultural Affairs.

Brian Mason, Human Resources/Payroll Manager,
Gainesville Mechanical, Inc., says "our intention of the game on the 19th is to bring area youth together (like youth groups from local churches)."

Lemon has his own television show which is broadcast on the Trinity Broadcasting Network (TBN), a religious-oriented cable television network. "The Meadowlark Lemon Show" has won four TBN Angel Awards. On each show, he interviews athletes and entertainers who attribute their success to their life in God.

Lemon, in touring the country with the All Stars, is trying to achieve a personal milestone: to play career game number 10,000.

"(Lemon and Neal) will be performing their typical and world wide known basketball court antics and competing against the Sharpshooters," Mason said.
