New homes approved for Gainesville up dramatically

By by Ken Stanford
GAINESVILLE - Gainesville is on a pace, halfway through the year, to end 2004 with 240 permits for new single-family housing - which would be about 100 more than last year.

Gainesville Building Inspection Services says through June, 120 such permits were issued, whereas there were 137 okayed for all of 2003.

Meanwhile, the same report shows that in unincorporated Hall County, 94 single-family residential permits were approved last month, bringing to 598 the number approved for the first half of the year. At that rate, the county would end the year with about 32 fewer than 2003.
