Movie filmed in Braselton opened Friday

UNDATED - A movie, a portion of which was filmed in Braselton, opened around the country.

Some scenes for "Bobby Jones: A Stroke of Genius" were filmed at Chateau Elan.

The Woodlands section of Chateau Elan Golf Course was transformed back to the early 1900s for the filming which lasted about a week last September. The movie details the life of the early 20th Century golfing great.

Producer Kim Dawson said at the time of the Braselton shooting they picked Chateau Elan's courses because of their diversity. Dawson said in a number of places the Chateau Elan courses resemble locations where Jones played during his career from 1908-1930.

The producers believe a movie about a "man of honor" will sell tickets. Dawson said that's why they made a movie about Jones' life.

"He was such a intriguing character with so much integrity and honor," Dawson said during a break in the shooting last year. "His story works for today's world."

The movie stars Jim Caviezel as Jones. Caviezel portrayed Jesus in the recently released "The Passion of the Christ."
