Online purchase of Ga 400 Cruise Card coming

By by Ken Stanford
ATLANTA - Starting next Monday, Georgia 400 commuters will be able to buy those Cruise Cards you use at the toll booths online, according to Governor Sonny Perdue.

Governor Sonny Perdue said this will make it easier for commuters to pay their toll. The new online service will be available at www.srta.georgia.gov. Drivers will be able to pay their toll bill, open new cruise card accounts, review their current balances, and update account information online.

"Georgia 400 commuters will find this new online resource to manage their toll accounts very customer friendly. It should help bring more commuters to the Cruise Card system and improve congestion at the toll plazas," said Governor Sonny Perdue.

Drivers with a Cruise Card can pass through a toll lane and automatically have their toll deducted from their account, without stopping to roll down their window, fumble for coins, or wait for change from an attendant.

"We hope this new method of payment will encourage more GA 400 drivers to use the Cruise Card, which can save them time when passing through toll booths," said Douglas Hooker, of the State Road and Tollway Authority. "The more people who use the Cruise Card, the less traffic will build up at the toll booth lines, which ultimately can relieve congestion overall on Georgia 400, conserve fuel and reduce emissions."

The idea behind online payment is to offer more value for commuters, improve efficiency and continue to offer the public innovative services. It's also the first step in a long-term vision of Georgia transportation officials, who would like to see a single, monthly transportation statement for commuters which would include toll, parking and other transit systems in one monthly online bill.
