RMA opens enrollment to local day students

GAINESVILLE - Beginning this fall, Riverside Military Academy will open its enrollment to local students who would like to attend as day students.

"In response a growing number of inquiries from families in the local area regarding our program, the Riverside Board of Trustees has approved the implementation of a day student component in the coming academic year," said Col. Michael Hughes, superintendent.

Riverside is a college preparatory school for young men in grades 7-12. The academy's Corps of Cadets currently represents more than 400 students from 30 states and 10 countries. About 70 students are from Hall County and surrounding counties.

"Many parents are seeking a more structured and challenging academic environment for their sons, and the military structure provides a system of positive discipline and rewards that help boys become successful students," Col. Hughes said. "To receive the full benefit of our program, day students would be expected to fulfill the same academic, athletic and military responsibilities as our boarding cadets."

Riverside's 2004-05 academic term begins on Aug. 16. Tuition for cadets enrolled as day students would be $15,000 for the year. The fee includes, the initial issue of uniforms, books, lunches, and athletic fees. Tuition for new boarding students next year will be $23,900.
