Well-known White County educator, potter dies

CLEVELAND - Services are scheduled Saturday for a well-known White County educator and potter who died Thursday following a sudden illness.<br> <br> Bob Owens, 65, served as an Instructor and Adjunct Professor of Art at Truett McConnell College in Cleveland and headed the Fine Arts Department at North Georgia College and State University in Dahlonega from 1972 until 2002. He also served on the White County Board of Education from 1981 until 1989.<br> <br> He was the founder of Owens Pottery, which he opened in 1966 and operated at the time of his death. Owens served on the Board of Directors for the Quinlan Arts Center in Gainesville and the Georgia Citizens for the Arts. He was also a member of several other state and local arts and education organizations.<br> <br> Services will be held Saturday at 2:00 at Cleveland United Methodist Church.<br> <br>
