Gainesville park dedication Tuesday

GAINESVILLE - The City of Gainesville is getting ready to formally dedicate the new South Side Park.

The park is located between Fair Street Elementary School and the Gainesville-Hall County Boys and Girls Club.

Gainesville Parks and Recreation Director Melvin Cooper says the dedication will celebrate the partnership that brought the project from dream to reality.

The site includes playgrounds, a walking trail, picnic site, and athletic facilities.

A south side citizen's advisory committee was formed to work with the City of Gainesville, Gainesville Parks and Recreation, Gainesville-Hall County Boys and Girls Club, Gainesville City Schools, Safe Kids Coalition, and Major League Baseball.

Funding assistance for the $440,000 project was provided by the City of Gainesville, Gainesville City Schools, grants from the Department of Community Affairs, the National Parks Services' Land and Water Conservation Fund, and Major League Baseball.

The ceremony will be held Tuesday at 4:00.
