Pre-school roundup set for Hall schools

By by Ken Stanford
GAINESVILLE - The school year is coming to an end - and thoughts are already turning to next year for some people.

Pre-school roundup for Hall County children entering kindergarten next fall will be held at each of the Hall County elementary schools April 19 - April 22, 9:00-3:00 each day.

Enrolling kindergarteners should accompany parents for preregistration, according to spokesman Gordon Higgins. Also, those children not presently enrolled in Hall County Schools who will be entering first grade next fall should preregister during this same time.

Higgins said children entering kindergarten must be five years of age on or before September 1 in order to be enrolled, and children entering first grade must be six years of age on or before September 1 in order to be enrolled.

Parents must present child's birth certificate for preregistration. Parents are requested to present the Certificate of Immunization (Form 3231, Rev. 1-2000) at preregistration. Social security numbers are requested for all students. Parents may elect to sign a waiver if they prefer not to give the social security number. Also, the Certificate of Ear, Eye and Dental Examinations (Form 3300) is preferred upon enrollment next fall.

Additionally, students entering first grade must meet the state and locally mandated requirements. A kindergarten teacher will administer a short school readiness assessment to each child as part of the enrollment process.

Call the school office in your attendance area or the Assistant Superintendent for Teaching and Learning (770-534-1080) on any further questions concerning kindergarten or first grade enrollment.
