HOMER - A ceremony was held earlier this week dedicating a Banks County highway in honor of a a man who served for nearly 40 years as mayor of Homer.

The Georgia Department of Transportation Board and the family of "Buster" Garrison gathered at the civic center in Homer to formally dedicate the Homer Bypass as the "M.E. 'Buster' Garrison Bypass.

In addition to serving a mayor of Homer, Garrison was involved in a number of other ways in governmental as well as civic affairs.

He also oversaw the Garrison Family Easter Egg Hunt - which still attracts thousands every year and was once proclaimed the "World's Largest Easter Egg Hunt" by the Guinness Book of World Records.
