Gainesville, Hall STAR students, teachers named

GAINESVILLE - Three STAR students and three STAR teachers were named Tuesday to represent the Gainesville and Hall County school systems in the District START Student competition. <br> <br> Karl Knights and James Hubbard, both of Gainesville High, were chosen to represent the city school system along with their STAR teachers, Sam Harben III and Cindy Smith. <br> <br> The Gainesville system is sending two sets of winners to district because the students Knights and Hubbard tied for the city honor with the same SAT scores and class rank.<br> <br> The Hall County system will be represented by STAR Student Michael Vaughn of Johnson High and his STAR Teacher Valerie Noble.<br> <br> The system winners will now compete for District 2 STAR honors at an awards banquet to be held Thursday March 11 in Jasper.<br> <br> Each school&#39;s STAR Student and STAR Teacher was recognized at Tuesday&#39;s meeting of the Gainesville Kiwanis Club where the system winners were announced. <br> <br> The club has had a long-standing tradition of honoring the Gainesville and Hall County STAR students and teachers each year.<br> <br> Here is a list of each high school&#39;s STAR student and teacher:<br> <br> School Student Teacher <br> Brenau Academy Alyson Falk Deborah Kroll<br> Chestatee High Robin Fried David Lynn<br> East Hall High Jason Vogel Terry Miller<br> Flowery Branch Alison Ryan Regina Goodman<br> Gainesville Karl Knights Sam Harben III<br> Gainesville James Hubbard Cindy Smith<br> Johnson High Michael Vaughan Valerie Noble<br> Lakeview Elizabeth Scully Ellen Toms<br> North Hall Caroline Chapman Nancy Story<br> Riverside Matt Branton John McCleary<br> West Hall Philip Neiheisel Carolyn Peck
